3 Hours of Catching Up

Last night, I met up with one of my really good friends, Amy.  She was my first friend when my family moved here before 8th grade, and we’ve been friends every since then.

There were times that we were inseparable, and then there were times that we didn’t hang out much.  But we always stayed friends.  I wish I hadn’t packed away my photo albums yet, because I have some great pictures of us over the years!

In 8th grade, we dressed up as “OU Girls” for “Twinkie Day.”  We were completely matching from our OU face-paint to our shirts to our crimson hair ribbons to our painted Keds.  Looking back, we were dorks.  But back then we thought we were so cool.

In 9th grade we started Yearbook together.  We were the only two freshmen and we were in charge of the whole junior high section.  Most other grades added people to the Yearbook team throughout high school, but it was still just the two of us when we graduated.

We’ve shared laughter, tears, excitement, secrets and tons of memories over the years.

Last night was the first time we’ve seen each other since Amy and Andy got married almost a year and a half ago.  We had SO much to catch up on, but we picked up right where we left off.

It’s always good to run into people and catch up, but there’s something special about getting together with people you’ve truly shared life with and haven’t seen for a long time.  Even though time and miles have separated us, we’re still connected at the heart.  It’s hard to explain, but if you have friends like this, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

As one of my favorite heroines, Anne of Green Gables, would say, “We’re kindred spirits.”
