“Go With God” …again

As I was searching for the post about the last time we moved, entitled 440 miles, I saw this post.  It is fitting for our situation once again.

This song by Levi Smith is a big encouragement during this time.  It talks about how it’s hard when people we love leave, but if they’re following God, they have to go.

.

Go With God by Levi Smith

Seemed like a chill swept the room
As you slowly broke the news
And shock spread across each face
Disbelief is soon replaced with blank stares
Into nowhere
And though I knew this day would come
I’m not ready to be left undone
And some say that nothing good can last
How quickly time has passed
It hurts, you know
To see you go

But don’t look to the right or to the left
Set your gaze to what lies ahead
There are trails to blaze and memories to make
And so whatever it takes

Go with God
If you can’t stay
I’d be a fool to stand in your way
And go with God
And follow ’til
‘Til you find yourself in the middle of His will

No one could take the place you have among us
Or fill the void left in your wake
And all that you’ve done here will not be soon forgotten
But you can’t be contained in the pictures we take

So don’t you look to the right or to the left
Set your gaze to what lies ahead
There are trails to blaze and memories to make
And so whatever it takes

Go with God
If you can’t stay
I’d be a fool to stand in your way
And go with God
And follow ’til
‘Til you find yourself in the middle of His will

Roll on
Roll on
Roll on my friend
Roll on
Roll on
Roll on

It hurts, you know
To see you go
Go with God
Go with God

Who knows what tomorrow holds?
Who knows what tomorrow holds?
Who knows what tomorrow holds?
But I know who holds tomorrow

And though I knew this day would come…

I promise we’ll try to blog more.

Its crazy the amount of times we’ve said, “We need to write a blog post.”  And then we never do.  I feel terrible.  But life has been whizzing by.  It’s been so good, but very busy.  But we are committed to blogging more.  This is one of the best ways to stay connected to everyone, and I hate that we’ve been horrible at it for the past 6 months or so.

I need to upload my pictures, and then I’ll do a ridiculously sped-up version of our lives over the past few months.  Stay tuned for things like:

  • Michael’s brother’s wedding over Easter weekend
  • Summer fun (including a trip to California with the youth)
  • Building and moving in to our new house
  • Family time
  • Christmas decorating
  • and more

.

What all have you been up to over the past few months?

Make a Difference Page

We just wanted to let you know that we’ve added a “Make a Difference” page on our blog.  Here, you can find information about some of the charities that we support.  We believe that God can use us to truly make a difference in this world through partnering with these organizations.  Check them out, and let us know if there are others we should look into!

Being a Good Person – By M

So our posts on our blog don’t typically have this “edge” to them… but I wrote this up for one of our youth to share with a buddy of his and I thought I would go ahead and post it on our blog.  (Just the Youth Pastor in me coming out a little). PS… the Skydiving update will be on it’s way soon so continue to stay tuned for that.

………………………………………………………………………………….

“Why, In God’s Eyes, Being a ‘Good Person’ Just Isn’t Enough”

A couple of Bible verses to start with:

Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Romans 3:11 – “For as it is written ‘There is no one righteous, not even one…’”

Since Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, every person who has been born has sinned.  We all fall short of God’s glory, also known as his perfection.  In Deuteronomy 32:4, and in many other passages, the Bible says that “[God] is the Rock, his works are perfect and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.”  God is perfect.  We are not.  Even if we are as good as we could possibly be here on earth we are still covered in Sin.  No matter how much right we do, we will still always make mistakes.

Have you been jealous of your friends ride recently? Did you lie to your teacher about your homework?  Ever not told your parents the “whole truth” about where you were that one weekend with your friends?  All those things, even though they seem insignificant, are enough to keep us out of God’s presence – heaven.  This is not because God is mean or unfair.  The thing is, he is So fair, SO just, and SO perfect, that he cannot have any (even one) imperfection in his presence, in Heaven.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”  We are saved by grace (Jesus dying on the cross in our place) through faith (believing what Jesus did covers all our sin).  We are not saved by works; we are not saved by what we can do on our own so that we can’t boast or be proud about it.  It’s only Jesus who can save us from our sin.

So in short, we’ve all sinned – we’ve all done wrong in God’s eyes. Even if we were good 99.9% of the time (which would basically be impossible anyway) we would still be marked by that .1% of sin and imperfection.  God can only accept 100% perfection into heaven.  The only way we can reach that perfection is through our faith in Jesus and the belief that we have in his sacrifice on the cross.  Only Jesus can take away the marks of sin because he died for us after living a perfect life.  So, as Christians, when we get to heaven, God doesn’t see what we’ve done to get there.  He sees our belief in what Jesus did to get us there.

John 3:16” For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Hope this gives you something to think about.  May God bless you throughout your week!

More Quick Takes of My Life – By M

It’s kind of sad that most of my blogging consists of posts like this… but I know that it would be unfair to jump in and do a post and not fill you in on what’s been going on in my life since my most recent post!  I normally write these so that I can follow up with a longer post about something else, but then before you know it it’s been another month or two and I still haven’t posted anything.  Well this time I will be posting again this week without fail.  See, I want to give you an update on my world… and then I’ll be writing one for the ages!!!      ….. ok, not really.  However, I will definitely be writing once we get our pictures in from skydiving. We’ll get some pictures uploaded and posted so that you can read (and see) all about our skydiving trip!

– SO I don’t really know the last time I posted

– I think it was in late January or early February

– It’s already April 2nd!  Man time flies!

– So the reason neither Staci or I have posted in the last year-and-half/not-really-that-long is cause we’ve have been outrageously busy! I know I probably say that all the time, but trust me it’s true!

– Seriously!  Since the beginning of the year I think Staci and I have spent maybe a total of 3 weekends at home doing not much of anything.  Staci was literally not at home for a weekend for a month straight!

– I went on Golden Triangle Emmaus Men’s Walk #132 at the end of January!  Very great trip… if you ever haven’t a chance to attend, trust me it’s worth it!

– Why don’t adults get spring break?!  It’s a real shame… I mean I know I haven’t experienced one in the past 3 years, but I think this is the first year that it’s really gotten to me.

– Man, the last time I wrote on this blog the Spurs were cruising through the NBA season… now we’re on the worst losing streak in like 13 or 14 seasons – gag me with a dirty sock!   Oh well, maybe this will make them hungry for the playoffs! I still believe!

– Staci turns 24 this upcoming week!  I got it all planned out… and I’d love to share it but then Staci wouldn’t be able to read this post.

– Wow – we’re getting old.  We’re both approaching the precipice of our 20’s (it’s just down hill after 25) and our youth students were born after the N64 came out!  Dang!  They don’t even really remember the 90’s or Y2K or nothin!

– Why can’t the Texas coastline be nice?  Visited a nother one of your beaches and it really wasn’t much to write home about…

– Chill out, Texas, I still love you – you’re still the best nation state ever!

– It’s only 7 more months till Christmas season comes back – That’s exciting!

– I jumped out of an air plane yesterday and I didn’t die!  That’s reason for celebration!  I can’t wait to tell you all about it… so tune in again soon when we get our pics and stories uploaded and blogged!

.

So we’ve had a whirlwind Winter/Spring 2011… How have the last couple months been treating you?  Done anything special or exciting recently? Or do you have any random thoughts on life?

I’m Still Here – By M

(And no this post is in no way reference to the creepy movie Joaquin Phoenix put out about his life as a druggy-rapper-wanna-be)

Anyways… I realized that it’s been since, I think, November that I last put up a post.  As Staci has mentioned, we’ve had a rowdy past few months.  It all began with the Thanksgiving Holiday and has carried all the way through this January Weekend.  There’s a lot to be covered… so here are some highlights/thoughts/etc since I last posted.

.

– Wow! It’s November already!  And the end of November at that!

– It’s frustrating when your pumped about going to a Spurs game at home and then they decide they want to lose!  I mean really… they haven’t had a home loss since that night (November 26th.  It’s January 22nd.  I hope I’m not bad luck)!  But it was still fun and I got to go with the fam, and it was Staci’s first time at the AT&T Center and she thought it was awesome!  🙂

– Speaking of the Spurs… I love them being on top of the league right now!  Go Spurs Go!  Championship number 5… we’re on our way!

– Dang! It’s December!

– Christmas Season really is the best time of the year… it’s a shame it’s so short.

– I forgot how funny “Despicable Me” is.  If you haven’t seen it, go see it!  (Thank you mom for getting it for me for Christmas, and thank you for getting me the movie pack that has the inflatable minion)

– Snow Skiing is awesome!  And it is also way harder than the Olympians make it look!  But I had a blast on vacation.  I can’t wait to go again! (Staci will make a bigger post about this subject.)  …Oh and for the record, nobody could tell it was my first time skiing cause I looked that good 🙂  Oh yeah!

– Whoa! It’s January!

– New Year’s Celebrations are overrated… Staci and I spent this year’s in a car on a 14 hour drive from Red River, NM to Dallas, TX.  Honestly, we almost missed it, but Staci noticed the time when it was 11:58.   I really didn’t feel like i missed out on anything.

– It’s not cold in Beaumont

– Paintball is awesome!  Especially when 22 people are involved!  took a trip with our youth and shot a lot of people, and got shot a couple of times too.  I miss playing that game on a regular basis!

– I’m so glad the Hot Hearts Conference is over!  It was a great weekend with our youth, but boy am I worn out!   I’m also glad to sleep back in my bed after a night on the hard concrete gym floor!

– What in the world! It’s almost February! …time flies when you’re having fun I guess!

.

Well, thats my life in a nut-shell.  Hope I didn’t bore you to death!

.

(Even though this is kinda late) How were your holidays?  What did you do?  What did you get?  How has the New Year begun for you?
